We knew it was coming. The day that would make this all seem so much more real! And then, it finally arrived. No, not the baby! We attended our first childbirth class!! Neither of us really new what to expect! All we knew was that we had to show up with two pillows and a blanket. Being 8.5 months along, I was not looking forward to sitting on the ground for 3 hours! Luckily, we had chairs and tables...oh, and rice krispy treats! Much of the class was just about the basics: what happens to a woman's body during pregnancy, when to go to the hospital, what to expect upon check-in, and (Sarah's personal favorite) making sure the men knew what NOT to say. For example, we were told that it's probably not a good idea for the husband to talk about how uncomfortable the "daddy chair" is in the delivery room.
Anyway, we also practiced our breathing. It was a little weird breathing along with 40 other people, but we made it through. Bonus for the evening was getting to watch a video about labor & delivery! Needless to say, Jeff only watched the non-graphic parts. But considering how woozy he felt just thinking about CENTIMETERS, he did a great job and I think he got over most of his fears about delivery! We left feeling better informed and more comfortable with the upcoming delivery overall. We still have 2 more classes to go and we are both looking forward to being as prepared as possible!
